Moderate Protein

Balance your diet with moderate protein.

Protein is an important part of whatever diet you chose. That being said, you can get this protein from a wide variety of animal and plant sources. A low carb diet is achievable even for vegetarians.

Low carb diets such as Atkins were criticized early on for being too high in protein. Most Keto diets recommend that 20% of your calories come from protein. Dr Mercola’s method for low carb eating recommends eating a very small amount of protein, essentially an amount equal to one chicken breast per day. So as you can see, the argument that low carb diets are not healthy because they have too much protein does not hold true.

Don’t over eat protein, but make sure you get enough.

The guidance seems to differ from doctor to doctor. Make sure you check in with yours to help determine what is the right level for you based on your current health and your activity level.

There are several protein sources that have almost no carbs. These are handy to keep you full and supply you with important amino acids that your body requires. If you don’t eat enough, you may not feel as full as you can. If you eat too many your body may end up storing the excess as fat and could have other negative effects.

When choose any diet, make sure the protein level is something that you are comfortable with.
